The project has facilitated studies and stake-holder consultations aiming to make recommendations for realistic and acceptable outlines for a sustainability certification structure (SCS) for five fibres (jute, abaca, coir, kenaf and sisal – “JACK”).  Technical support and guidance was provided by sustainability/ certification experts from the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands.  Based on two interactive workshops, options and insights were developed which contributed to understanding the challenges to be faced by the JACKS fibre sector in considering sustainability management/certification schemes of the sector.  The outcome of the consultations have been documented in a final report which includes an overview of existing schemes and their potential as a suitable tool for a SCS for the hard fibres; recommendations for the further development of an SCS for the fibres and, to the extent feasible, its operationalization.

The final report can be accessed here.
