Project: Completed in 2007

Approved in 1999

The main objective of the project is to develop Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies for two pests, namely Oryctes Rhynoceros and Aceria Guerreronis, which have a significant adverse impact. Oryctes Rhynoceros, and related pests,
are found in all coconut-growing countries while Aceria Guerreronis is prevalent in Africa, South and Central America, and recently in India and Sri Lanka. The project develops packages of IPM techniques using locally available materials that are easily applied by coconut smallholders. CFC support for this project ensures that all coconut-growing countries are aware of its benefits. Participating countries are the Philippines, India, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka. Subsidiary support activities are conducted in Tanzania, Indonesia, Malaysia, Samoa and Thailand.
