Project Completed in 1999

The central objective is to improve benefits accruing from fish export by enhancing product value through the development of competitive products and opening up new markets for West African fish products. The project transferred appropriate fish processing technology and know-how; introduced international quality standards; evaluated market opportunities including an assessment of demand in European market and other international markets; carried out production of new fish products and markets; carry out production of new fish products and market them on trial basis; and evaluated the longer term investment needs for expansion of fish processing industry in a number of countries. To facilitate training and technology dissemination close cooperation took place between national and international experts, relevant government staff and the interested and committed private sector firms active in the field of Fish processing.
