Project completed in 2006

The project aimed to improved the productivity of the fishery sector and expand the fish market in Arab region comprising 21 countries. These objectives was achieved through improvement in storage and processing techniques; enhancement of quality improvement and control; promotion of value-added fishery products, technical training and provision of market information; and addressing the related environmental issues. Project components were as follows: (a) identification of markets for value-added fishery products, assessment of market requirements and opportunities in national and export markets, and market promotion; (b) quality improvements and certification; (c) assessment of investment needs for fish processing, interregional fish trade development, and for smallholder fish production including aquaculture development; (d) strengthening the capacity of INFOSAMAK; and (e) project supervision, monitoring and evaluation.
