Project completed in 1999
The central objective of the project was to develop policy and operational guidelines that can be applied to protect tropical forests from fire hazards, based on the experience of Indonesia. Regional experiences were consolidated to develop a national framework for tropical forest fire protection and rehabilitation. The results were promoted through training and workshops including participants from the region and from further afield. The guidelines on the protection of forests against fire, approved in a second international workshop, were disseminated internationally within the forestry and forest fire protection sectors, and met with general approval.
