Project completed in 2011

The objective of the project is to enhance employment and incomes for poverty alleviation and sustainable development through (i) improving the technological and skills inputs in bamboo processing, (ii) developing capacity for sustainable supply of raw materials and (iii) diversification into new products and new markets. The project is located in Ethiopia and Kenya. After four years of successful operation, the project has met most of its targets and made pre-eminent progress in achieving its specific objectives that contributed for the achievement of long term objectives. The main impact of the project was the demonstration of the tremendous development potential of bamboo in creating sustainable employment in both rural and urban marginalized areas in Ethiopia and Kenya. Besides, the awareness of economic, social and environmental benefit of bamboo was considerably raised among all the stakeholders.
