The primary objective of the project was the development of timber free packaging for rubber to reduce contamination of rubber and eliminate the problems and associated costs of disposal of the commonly used chemically treated timber crates. The end results of the project were prototypes of new plastic packaging trays that were reusable, recyclable, and designed to eliminate contamination by wood. At the end of Phase I it was concluded that it was technically feasible to utilise the plastic trays as designed under the project for the transport of natural rubber.
