This workshop aims to analyse the problems and opportunities for improving the livelihoods of small-scale mining communities in terms of the available regional experiences and policy options that could be implemented by national policy makers. The unique feature of the proposed workshop is that it would bring expert views and practical experiences directly to a large audience of senior policy makers, and would allow them the opportunity to debate the
policies and options available in the national and regional context to improve the livelihoods of people and communities dependent on small-scale mining.
