Mr. Budi Hartantyo was, on 15 September 1989, appointed to the newly created post of Managing Director of the Common Fund for Commodities.
Born in Lamongan, Indonesia on 29 November 1928.
Master of Arts in social and political science, National University, Jakarta.
He entered the Indonesian diplomatic service after graduation from the Academy for the Foreign Service, Jakarta in 1954.
1954 to 1956: Desk Officer in charge of GATT matters, Directorate General of Foreign Economic Relations, Department of Foreign Affairs.
1956 to 1958: Vice-Consul, New York, USA.
1958 to 1960: Vice Consul, San Francisco USA.
1960 to 1964: Section Chief in charge of Aid under United States Public Law 480 (surplus agricultural products), Directorate General of Foreign Economic Relations, Department of Foreign Affairs.
1964 to 1968: First Secretary for economic affairs in the Embassy of Indonesia, Canberra, Australia.
1968 to 1971: Section Chief for International Trade, Directorate General of Foreign Economic Relations, Department of Foreign Affairs.
1971 to 1975: Minister in the Embassy of Indonesia, Brussels, specially in charge of relations with the EEC.
1975 to 1978: Chief, Sub-directorate of Multilateral Economic Cooperation, Directorate General of Foreign Economic Relations, Department of Foreign Affairs.
1978 to 1981: Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative to the Office of the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.
1981 to 1985: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the People’s Republic of Hungary.
1985 to 1986: Head of the Promotion Bureau of the Investment Coordinating Board.
1986 to 1989: Senior Assistant to the Minister/Chairman of the Investment Co-ordinating Board with special responsibility for foreign relations and the promotion of direct foreign investment in Indonesia.
Mr. Hartantyo was honoured with the Indonesian order of ‘Satyalancana Karya Satya Second Class’, ‘Satyalancana Wira Karya’ and he was awarded ‘Commandeur de l’Ordre de Leopold II’, Kingdom of Belgium.
He has authored several books including ‘International Commodity Development Strategies: Proceedings of the Common Fund for Commodities Seminar on Commodity Development Measures in the Context of International Commodity Strategies’ which was published by the VU University press in 1994.
Mr. Hartantyo passed away on March 2019. He was married and had one daughter.
