Fruits and Spices Madagascar - Working Capital

Established in 1993 and based in Madagascar, a Least Developed Country (LDC), SCRIMAD focuses on the aggregation and processing of organic fruits and spices sourced from local smallholder farming cooperatives. Over the past five years, SCRIMAD has evolved from a small family business into a leading processor and exporter of fruits and spices from Madagascar, establishing significant strategic partnerships with organizations such as Ethiquable, a French cooperative specializing in fair trade products. The company predominantly sources from women-led supply chains, with around 80% of its suppliers being women. In addition, more than half of its employees, including management staff, are female, reflecting a strong commitment to gender inclusion. 

The CFC financing provided SCRIMAD with the working capital necessary to meet the growing demand for its products and increase its overall operational capacity and profitability. The investment was made with the expectation that it would deliver inclusive growth by expanding the number of smallholder suppliers from 2,000 to 3,000. By strengthening market access and ensuring fair pricing for producers, the project is expected to contribute to improved livelihoods and reduced inequalities among smallholder farmers. In addition, increased sourcing volumes are expected to support further employment opportunities for seasonal and contract workers along the value chain.
