West End Farms (WEF) is an integrated mixed-farming SME based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Established in 2001, WEF has gradually developed into the country’s largest commercial pork producer, thereby contributing to local food security. The company also cultivates maize, cassava, and soybeans on a 300-hectare fully mechanized farm to produce feed for its pigs. Operating in a country that has traditionally been a net importer of pork, where efforts by local farmers to increase domestic production are constrained by poor infrastructure and high feed costs, WEF sought to scale up its business model. 

Through the Africa Agriculture SME Fund (AAF-SME), the CFC provided WEF with USD 1 million to finance the construction of a modern finishing facility in Yaoundé, as well as to support working capital needs. The CFC financing was made with the expectation that it would enable WEF to scale up its annual production from 8,000 to 20,000 pigs, while generating up to 60 new jobs over five years, of which 40% were expected to be held by women. The new positions were anticipated to provide an average annual income of approximately USD 2,500.
