Ten Senses Africa, Kenya

Ten Senses Africa (TSA), established in 2006, is a Kenya-based processor and exporter of macadamia nuts, sourcing from a network of approximately 10,000 smallholder farmers in the Mt. Kenya region, including 5,000 certified organic producers. The company operates a processing facility in the Athi River Export Processing Zone near Nairobi with an annual capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes. In 2022, TSA was fully acquired by Pamoja Farms, a Switzerland-based agribusiness investor with operations in Tanzania. Building on a previous USD 1.5 million trade finance facility from CFC, TSA successfully transitioned from conventional to organic macadamia sourcing, processing, and exports, strengthening its position in premium international markets. 

TSA procures macadamia nuts in shell through 28 purchasing centres across the Mt. Kenya region and uses a mobile application linked to accounting and traceability systems to ensure transparency and prompt payments to farmers. Nuts are consolidated at regional warehouses and transported to the processing facility for drying, cracking, grading, sterilization, and packaging. The resulting kernels are exported to the European Union, the United States, and Asia, including specialized products for Chinese and U.S. markets. The proposed USD 1.5 million trade finance facility will support increased sourcing from smallholder farmers and replace the CFC’s previous facility approved in 2019, which expired in November 2024.
