Vietnam's rise as a commodity success story needs to be replicated globally
H.E. Mr. Huong Nam Ngo, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Netherlands, is seen with Managing Director Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal at the Secretariat of the CFC. Ambassador Ngo was accompanied by Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc Diep, Trade Counsellor, and Ms. Phan Thi Nga, First Secretary.
Ambassador Huong Nam Ngo came to visit CFC for the first time to know more about the activities of the CFC and its impact on the ground. He further enquired on modalities of how the Socialist Republic of Vietnam could become a member of CFC to avail itself of the benefits of CFC’s membership.
Ambassador Belal welcomed the Ambassador Huong with utmost appreciation of the people and leadership of Vietnam to make commodities work for their people and the region. Indeed, Vietnam's rise as a commodity success story is an impressive example of how strategic economic reforms, global integration, and a focus on specific industries can transform a nation's economic landscape. Ambassador Belal considers the absence of Vietnam a historical oversight and would like to welcome Vietnam without any further delay to help replicate Vietnam’s success stories globally.
After an initial exchange of pleasantries, Ambassador Belal provided Ambassador Huong Nam Ngo with a comprehensive overview of the current and prospective initiatives of the CFC. In view of the prevailing global challenges, Ambassador Belal stressed the importance of strengthening working relationships and partnerships with countries in the future. He also highlighted the critical need for capacity-building initiatives that extend beyond the conventional scope of the CFC's projects, particularly in light of lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the discussion, Ambassador Huong Nam Ngo underscored Vietnam’s vast agricultural potential and the significant opportunities for growth. He expressed their deep interest in CFC investment in Vietnam to support smallholders, thereby enhancing their incomes and reducing poverty. Ambassador Ngo commended the CFC's dedication to addressing the challenges faced by smallholders and SMEs, recognizing its vital role in bringing these issues to the forefront.
The conversation between the two Ambassadors laid a solid foundation for potential future collaboration. Ambassador Huong Nam Ngo offered thoughtful proposals on how a possible partnership between Vietnam and the CFC could further strengthen their shared goals of sustainable development.
Ambassador Belal reiterated CFC’s desire to learn from Vietnam’s continued efforts in agriculture towards achieving broader goals of poverty reduction, food security, and sustainable development.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of support and a commitment to promptly follow up on the necessary actions.
